During festivals such as Navratri, Dussehra and Diwali etc, Puri is served along with other festive food items such as Suji Halwa, Kala Chana, Rice Kheer, Potato Curry, Jeera Aloo and Boondi Raita.

How to make Puri at home
Puri is a tasty dish but since it is deep fried we recommend making it for a change of taste or on special occasions.
Dough preparation is the important part for making crispy Puri. In this section we will go through detailed steps with pictures of different milestones so you can validate your progress as you follow our Poori recipe.
How to prepare Puri Dough
This is the most important step in preparing crispy Puri. If you are able to make the perfect dough you will be able to make crispy Puri. Follow these steps to make crispy Puri every time.
To prepare Puri dough take wheat flour in a bowl or broad utensil and add Salt, Carom seeds and 1 tsp Vegetable Oil in it.
Tips & Tricks – Carom seeds improves digestion since Puri is a deep fried dish and may be quite heavy sometimes. Therefore it is recommended you add some Carom seeds while preparing Puri dough.
Now knead it using 1/2 cup of water. Once done, leave the dough for 5 mins so it becomes soft.
While preparing dough you may want to experiment with quantity of water to get the perfect dough. Please note that the dough should neither be too hard nor too soft.
Divide the dough into 12 equal sized balls. You are now ready to make Puri.
Make Puri
Take 2 cup vegetable oil in a deep utensil for frying Puri. To save sometime you can do this step while preparing dough so that oil is hot enough by the time dough is ready.
Puri is a high calorie food item and must be consumed occasionally
Now take a dough ball, apply very little amount of oil on it and roll it well into small circular shapes (3 – 4 inches). Make sure you apply the pressure evenly while rolling.
Check if the oil is hot by taking a very small piece of dough and put it in the frying pan. If it makes instant fizzing sound and the dough piece immediately floats in oil then it means oil is ready for frying.
Once the oil is hot add rolled Puri and deep fry it. Let it cook for few seconds on one side then flip it over to the other side and repeat the process until Puri becomes golden brown in colour from both sides.
While frying keep pressing the Puri with a slotted spoon so that it starts bloating. Usually while frying in a hot oil Puri will take less than a minute to get ready.
Puri is also known as Indian Fried Bread
You need to repeat the process for all the dough balls and your Puri will be ready to serve.
Chef Recommendation for Puri
- While frying if the oil becomes too hot then reduce the flame to medium and when it starts to cool down then turn back the flame to high. You can find that the oil is too hot if the Puri starts becoming dark brown in colour too soon.
- Serve Puri with Jeera Aloo, Cucumber Raita, Suji Halwa, Aloo Tamatar Ki Sabji (Potato Tomato vegetable curry).
- Add 2 tbsp Semolina (Suji or Rava) while preparing dough to make more crispy Puri.
