Making Suji Ka Halwa at home

Suji Ka Halwa Recipe is an easy dessert recipe which enables you to make this delicious dessert at home.

Semolina is the key ingredient for this dish and is a good source of Protein and dietary fiber.

In this section we go through few easy steps which you need to take to make Suji Halwa at home.

Prerequisite to make Suji Ka Halwa or Rava Sheera

Suji Halwa does not have any specific pre-preparation steps but the steps mentioned here will simply save you some time.

First slice or chop Cashew nuts, Almonds and Pistachio into small pieces. These will be used for garnishing purpose.

Take 1.5 cups of water in a utensil and put it on a gas on high flame. Heat it up until it starts to boil and then turn off the gas.

This water will be used later while cooking Suji Halwa. You can also boil water on second gas as you start roasting Semolina on other gas burner.

Boiling water beforehand is not mandatory and you can add water directly once the Semolina is roasted.

However, boiling water beforehand saves you few minutes while cooking the dish hence it is the best method to make Suji Ka Halwa.

Make Suji Ka Halwa or Rava Sheera

To make Suji Ka Halwa, take a clean utensil and put it on gas.

Set the flame on High.

Now add Clarified butter to the utensil and as soon as the clarified butter melts, add Semolina (Suji) to it.

Once the Clarified butter has melted, add Suji to it

Start stirring it for a couple of minutes. Gradually the clarified butter will be soaked by Suji.

You need to keep stirring until the mixture becomes golden brown in colour. Do not stop stirring else Semolina may get burnt.

At this step you should see golden brown Suji and very little clarified butter left in the pan.

This is required at this step else your Suji Ka Halwa will become too dry in the end.

Once Semolina gets desired colour, reduce the flame to low and slowly add hot water to roasted Semolina.

Keep stirring the mixture as you add water.

Take care while pouring water since water will splutter as you add it to roasted Semolina.

Continuous stirring is required to avoid lump formation which will spoil its texture.

Caution – Water splutter can be vigorous sometimes so be careful while adding water so you don’t get burnt with hot water.

The water will soon start evaporating. Once half of the water has been evaporated and the pudding starts getting thicker add sugar to it.

Keep stirring so that Sugar dissolves completely.

In another few minutes, almost all of the water will evaporate and pudding will start losing clarified butter implying your Suji Ka Halwa or Sooji Halwa is almost ready.

Time to add some chopped Cashews and Almonds.

Mix it well and your Suji Ka Halwa is ready.

Turn off the gas now.

Your Suji Halwa is now ready to be served. But before that Garnish it with chopped nuts. Enjoy this tasty dessert.

Chef Recommendation for Suji Ka Kalwa

  • If you are allergic to nuts or want to avoid them, then you can replace it with chopped and grated dry coconut. You can also add raisins while serving.
  • You can also enhance flavour by adding Cardamom powder (crushed Elaichi) or Saffron.
  • If you like then you can replace water with some skimmed boiled milk. In this case the taste and texture of Suji Ka Halwa would be quite different.

  • 1/4 cup Semolina Suji / Sooji / Rava
  • 2.5 tbsp Sugar Cheeni or As per taste
  • 2 tbsp Clarified Butter Ghee
  • 1.5 cup water
  • 10 g Cashew Nuts Kaju
  • 10 g Almonds Badam
  • 5 g Pistachio Pista

  • Slice or chop Cashew nuts, Almonds and Pistachio into small pieces.

  • Take water in utensil and put it on a gas on high flame. Heat it up until it starts to boil and then turn off the gas. This water will be used later while cooking Suji Halwa.

How to make Suji Halwa or Rava Sheera
